Read out loud to children.

In my last post I mentioned 10 reasons for reading out loud. Are you wondering what to read? Try books of poetry. Poetry needs to be read out loud.

One of my favorite books is Real-Aloud Rhymes for the very young by Jack Prelutsky. I  have my students read from it. Reading poetry out loud is one of the best ways to discover and re-enforce the rhythm of our language. A good activity for those who are English second language speakers.

I have recorded excerpts from the Introduction to this book by Jim Trelease. I like his ideas and feel they are worth sharing.
